Home of Alexis de Tocqueville, iconic figure of the ideals of democracy and justice, and famed author of Democracy in America (1835). This seminal work – published after his travels in the United States – is today considered a foundational masterpiece of political science.
Nested in a 19th century English style park, designed by Alexis de Tocqueville’s wife Mary, the Château de Tocqueville was built successively in the 16th, 18th and 19th centuries. Located in the heart of Normandy (20 km East of Cherbourg and 4 km from the sea), you will be able to discover one of the most beautiful and historical regions of France, all the while finding in this home the serenity and tranquility that inspired Alexis de Tocqueville.
